Martin Luther redefines what it means to be a Christian by implying that there is a distinction between passive and active faith. His redefinition makes Christianity a much more subjective faith as belief, he asserts, is only observed in a few who truly believe in God and do things for the sake of God rather than to fufill some kind of faith quota. This makes Christianity a more exclusive group as those who were deemed most righteous by possessing these attributes are deemed true Christians.
This becomes problematic as this practice of evaluating good Christians exists today. Overly righteous people cherry pick who they think deserves to be called Christian. It allows too much power in the hands of people who can outcast people on the basis of something that can't even be seen or observed.
