Tentative Answer: al-Ghazali?

al - Ghazali states that humans seek “the truth by the men” (al-Ghazali, 75) rather than “the men by the truth” (75). He warns how while it may be logical to assume that an honest person will say truth it doesn’t necessarily mean that they are actually true. He relates this in observing that because blood is found in a cupping glass does not make it unclean because this association is “not due to an attribute of its essence”(75). By this measure, al-Ghazali isn’t blindly following religion and neither is he letting perception cloud his judgement of finding truth. His quest for truth requires reason as he weeds out and methodically goes through the different reasons why one the sciences or philosophy don’t contain the truth he seeks. Also by using reason al-Ghazali is trying  to make sure that what he believes in or what he believes is the truth is absolutely the truth for him; he is trying to convince himself that he genuinely believes his truth to be true. Reason is very important for al-Ghazali because it is his way of not only trying to search for truth but also persuade himself that what he’s found makes sense to him.
