How Al Ghazali relates to Ibn Tufayl

The philosophical implication of the story of Hay Ibn Yakzan goes in line with Al Ghazali's argument that there is no contradiction between the power of mind and religion. In fact, for Al Ghazali, even religion itself is open to interpretation. The story of Ibn Yakzan portrays the mind as an autonomous power that is able to reach the ultimate truth without the need for guidance. This in fact, has influenced the Quakers sect who believed that God is in every person and the pope was thus of no need. Similarly, Al Ghazali thought that theologists were disruptive to the quest of truth with their contradictory statements. Similar to how Ibn Yakzan found the ultimate truth away from humanity, Al Ghazali tried to reunite his soul with God when he left Baghdad and stayed in a secluded place to pray.
