Tentative Response: Aristotle on the current US election (for David S)

         Aristotle would likely argue that temperament is one of, if not the most important quality for a leader. As Hillary Clinton leads in this way Aristotle would see her as superior. Aristotle would argueDonald Trump is still a just person even though he allows his anger and his ego to get the best of him. Likewise he would argue Hillary Clinton would be the better candidate because she has demonstrated more understanding in her political career and is level-headed; she doesn’t let emotions get the best of her. Most importantly Aristotle, as America, would see Trump as exemplifying the angry uneducated white male voter, since Hillary Clinton displays more optimism in her message she would get the respect of Aristotle.

 Early on Aristotle speaks of self-sufficiency as not only caring for yourself but for respecting and protecting the people around you. Since Donald Trump is infamous for not possessing the qualities of a family man. Since Donald Trump is known for equating the depth of his pockets to his worth as a person he has “undertaken the life of money-making as one undertaken under compulsion” (1096a). Trump exemplifies Aristotle’s definition of self-indulgence as “(he) has no regrets by his choice. “ (1150b). Hillary Clinton differs from Trump is much more able to admit wrong doing. Aristotle phrases this as“ incontinent man is subject to his regrets”
