1. What is the place of reason in the search for the truth for al-Ghazali?
2. What relation to society is necessary for finding the truth? Why does he return to society?
3. What role does al-Qur’an have to his path to understanding?
4. How does the physical body fit in the path to goal of the mystics?
Application: Many of us have been brought up to treat religious writings with skepticism. Does Al-Ghazali's (and the writings of the other mystics) provide a way to believe in a truth behind those words, that is to believe without taking the Bible or Qur'an as the whole truth.
